Boredom simply does not exist in this beautiful resort area of the Mexican Caribbean. The assortment of attractions abound, keeping the traveller engaged, for even the lengthiest of visits.
The island's options for children and young adults include a variety of activities. For a real lift, let go and fly a kite from the vantage point of the El Mirador de la Playa Delfines. Play a round of mini-golf at the Cancún Palace Hotel's Golfito. Swimming with dolphins at the Xcaret will leave any traveller something to return home and tell about. Kayaking, skating or cycling along the Ciclopista in the Plaza Kukulcán. Parents are invited to participate in these activities as well. Movie-lovers will be pleased to find the latest releases offered at the 10 fully equipped theatres in the plush cinema complex Cinemark, located in the La Isla Shopping Centre.
Aboard the Mississippi style river boat, The Cancún Queen, or the service of the Colombus Coaster Cruise view the island off its shores. Scheduled cruises depart every couple of hours from the hotel area. For the hearty sea-farer, Pirates Night, recommended for those over 18 years of age, offers fantasy fulfilment aboard its galleon, outfitted to convert even a landlubber into a seafaring pirate for a night.
More entertainment options for adults, include the Club de Golf, Cancún, on the Boulevard Kukulcán, km 7.5. Aquatic sports for the entire family are offered at Aquaworld located in the Flamingo Plaza. For more dry activities, their gaming arcade, Laser X overflows with the latest releases in video games, air hockey, pinball machines, and games to test your abilities.
Horseback riding along the shore for equine lovers, or sailing, reef snorkelling, deep-sea diving (specially trained instructors available for non-certified divers), fishing, jet-skiing and a host of other outdoor activities abound. Massage therapy is available, and can be requested from the hotel. Dining is available in over 200 restaurants, and more than 400 shops await the shopper in the hotel district.
Many other points of interest lie in proximity for those who wish to venture out of the island's main districts. Excursions are easily had from most hotels. The archaeological ruins of the lost Mayan civilization at Chichen Itza are located 87 miles from the island. The renown Zona Arqueológica de Tulúm are situated some 70 miles distance. Isla Mujeres, an exotic natural sanctuary with deep-sea diving available, is a mere 6 miles away. A visit to the ecological and archaeological park of Xcaret is a must, offering underground rivers and caves, a dip with the dolphins, or an evening multimedia show recounting Mayan history. Playa del Carmen and Puerto Aventuras are a few hours drive from the island, as well as Xel-Ha, a natural aquarium for snorkelling and swimming. For the adventurous spirit and jungle explorer, excursions are available to the Reserva de la Biósfera Sian Ka'an, to discover the mangroves and the wildlife thriving in this almost-virgin territory.
Boredom is prohibited on the island and its surrounding vicinities, leaving the traveller to choose, set out and enjoy!
