21st Annual St. Patrick Parade Toronto - Sunday March 15, 2009
The Toronto St. Patrick's Day Parade is one of the largest of its kind in the world. Enjoy floats, marching bands, musicians and even leprechauns. This year the parade will feature Irish County Associations, Irish Dancers, St. Swithun's Society, Toronto EMS, York Regional Pipes and Drums, Toronto Firefighters, York Lions Steel Band, and Toronto Police Pipes and Drums

Grand marshals of this year's parade are Jonathan and Robert Kearns. These gentlemen were the force behind founding Ireland Park in Toronto, and they were also co-honourees for Irish Person of the year in 2008.

6th Annual Edgewater Casino CelticFest Vancouver - March 11 to 15, 2009.
This 'much-loved annual entertainment event' brings tourists and locals together for a five-day Irish celebration of Celtic performance and culture. This year's event will feature hundreds of performers from around the world. They will perform on three outdoor stages in downtown Vancouver. Entertainers headlining the event this year include Ashley MacIsaac, Lúnasa (Ireland), the Duhks, Daniel Lapp, and The Paperboys together with Puro Son in a groundbreaking Celtic-Cuban Salsa concert.. Irish-American comedian Maureen Langan will serve as this year's Official Host.

Other highlights at this year's festival include:
Festival Artists' Lounge, Whisky Kiss Scotch Tasting, Battle of the Bards (pub crawl with a literary bent), Celtic music and dance workshops, Fiddlers of the Future, The Great Big Session, an interactive Celtic Music Session, the Celtic Village Street Market, free lunch-time shows and much, much more. Watch for celebrations marking poet Robbie Burns' 250 birthday, and don't miss the Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade on Sunday.

Ottawa: St. Patrick's Day Parade - The Irish Society of the National Capital Region
Grand Irish Party at Civic Centre Salons - Saturday March 14, 2009
The parade takes place during the society's annual Irish week. Awards will be given by a team of judges for best float, best marching band, best marching group and best of all other. The awards will be given out during the 'Irish Party' after the parade. The party will take place in the Salons of the Civic Centre from 12pm-4pm. It will feature a variety of Irish singers, musicians and dancers. All are welcome to join the party; admission $10 for adults, $5 for teens and children 12 and under get in for free.

Montreal's St. Patrick's Day Parade - Sunday March 22, 2009
Montreal's parade is the longest running in Canada in its 185th year, rivaling the parade held in Dublin. Over 180 years after the parade began it is still going strong, attracting thousands of locals and visitors that are dressed for the occasion.

Approximately 84 per cent of the population of Quebec claim Irish heritage. Visitors to Montreal have said that it appears the city has 'gone mad with Celtic fever' during the time of the parade.

I am still trying to understand why st patrick's is associated with drinking alcohol
